/u/zac_l (a Microsoft Engineer) has provided the following solution:
From an admin Command Prompt (or admin Power Shell... whichever of the two is accessible when right-clicking Start - my note), type the following:
pnputil /enum-drivers
High Definition Audio Bus Driver
A whole bunch of drivers will be listed. You'll want to find the one that matches this:
Published Name: oemXXXX.inf
Original Name: intcaudiobus.inf
Intel High Definition Audio Bus Driver Download Full
Provider Name: Intel(R) Corporation
Class Name: System devices
Class GUID: {4d36e97d-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}
Driver Version: 08/22/2018 09.21.00.3755
Signer Name: Microsoft Windows Hardware Compatibility Publisher
In the above, you need to locate the oemXXXX.inf name that is listed (XXXX could be any number). Be sure all the other details match up, otherwise you might remove the wrong driver.
Once you have found the driver, run this command:
Intel High Definition Audio Bus Driver Download For Pc
pnputil /delete-driver oemXXXX.inf /uninstall
where oemXXXX.inf is what you had found earlier.
Edit: If command-line interfaces scare you, /u/aveyo has made a front-end script for it, here (no warranty, though).
